Promotion and protection of human rights within the European Union. Developments

Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes the recent developments in Romania in the context of the country’s accession to the European Union, in terms of human rights. A constant care is taken for the legislative and institutional adaptation to the communitarian standards, a process that is still going on in the aftermath of the country’s accession to the EU, in order to both eliminate certain shortcomings that are still persisting and keep pace with the European Union’s advancements and new objectives. Particular attention in paid to the issues of equality and non-discrimination, the legislative, administrative and educational measures taken in the framework of the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All. She also examines such issues as religious freedoms, consumer protection, fighting corruption and fair trial guarantees.
