Summary/Abstract: Juvenile delinquency is as old as the forms of child maltreatment and victimization. From early times, states issued laws which stipulated that a minor who committed a crime was punished according to the community rules. The history of crimes committed by youngsters and the laws regulating this issue is a fascinating journey back in time, from Ancient society to modern time, from Ancient China to the newest Romanian Code of Criminal Procedure – this journey is the central theme of this study. The article examines the way in which juvenile delinquency has been defined and punished by the Romanian laws but also by the attitude of common people. The author considers the specificity of juvenile delinquency, as a pre-requisite for finding the best solution to prevent other children/ teenagers from committing crimes.
