Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present experience of three psychodrama psychotherapists while working with people suffering from Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative colitis, as well as with their family members. In order to enhance their capacity to cope with one of these two chronic illnesses, different psychodrama techniques were used (direct and indirect role reversals, doubles, mirror, sharing etc.). These psychodrama techniques treated maladaptive behaviour such as difficulty of accepting the illness, withdrawal from society, the traumatic experience of treatment and frequent surgeries, lack of support from the significant others, loneliness and the depression. This paper provides an overview of application of psychodrama psychotherapy in four different contexts: individual work with the people suffering of Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative colitis; individual work with close family members of suffering person, group work with people suffering of Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative colitis; and finally, group work with members of their families. Psychodrama psychotherapy has a significant impact on the process of controlling chronic diseases, and accordingly, some of the observed outcomes can be following: high cohesion of the group members, enhanced clients’ awareness of their own body, an increased sense of responsibility for their own healing process, as well as enhanced skills to deal successfully with the disease and altered dynamics in relationships that undermine disease.
