Summary/Abstract: Every member of society, any Church leader, any intellectual and person with educational responsibilities should make a contribution to the understanding of the fundamentals of human rights, to the observance thereof, and, why not, to loving and supporting them. An important contribution to the thorough study and the substantiation of human rights is also made by the Catholic Church. The author, a high hierarch, refers to the traditions of the Catholic Church, the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, the Encyclicals of Pope John Paul II, particularly his first Encyclical, Redemptor hominis, appreciated as a keystone to the entire thinking and teaching of man and human dignity. He also calls for open-mindedness, for dialogue and cooperation in order to achieve a more thorough study and the substantiation of human rights, to search for their sources, and to point out their spiritual dimension, which inspired the organization of the symposium.
