Summary/Abstract: A priority with the educational reforms is education for democratic citizenship, in the complex correlation to education for human rights. On the one hand, education for democratic citizenship is based on the universal values of human rights, while on the other hand, the latter includes, as one of its constitutive elements, education for human rights, whose purpose is the elaboration of programmes and activities meant to contribute to a social climate where human rights are understood, defended and observed. Education for human rights should not be limited to acquiring knowledge and information related to human rights, but involves awareness about them and observance thereof, interconnected attitudes, behaviours, beliefs, norms, and it is precisely the achievement of the general objectives of education that the programmes that are underway in the field refer to.
