Summary/Abstract: The issue of this article is African swine fever (ASF) virus asa biological treats in the Member states of the European Union. The purposeis to define the role of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)in the biological risk analysis process and to indicate the functions itperforms. A research hypothesis was put forward: the recommendationsindicated in scientific opinions published by EFSA are the basis for theEuropean Commission implementing decisions. The research questionscorrespond with it are: What is the scale of the threats associated withthe ASF virus? What competencies does EFSA have in the biological risk analysis process? How has the EFSA approach evolved regarding the riskmanagement tools associated with ASF? When and in which cases doesEFSA undertake ASF research? The case study method was used in thestudy and the desk research technique was applied.
