Summary/Abstract: An independent EU body, with legal personality, established under Council Regulation No. 168/15.02.2007, the Agency for Fundamental Rights has the purpose of providing expertise and assistance to the institutions, the bodies and the organizations of the European Union and its Member States in their efforts to implement the communitarian law. For the Agency to achieve its purpose, it is tasked to collect data, perform research, develop educational and awareness raising programs, and publicize the results such as to provide the users with objective, independent, and relevant information, in due time, of high quality and in a proper form, meant to increase the respect for human rights. Following a general presentation of the way the Agency is working, the author refers to the content of the projects accomplished so far and those under way, pointing out in the end their importance in the context of the new phase of the European structural development.
