Summary/Abstract: The author examines the evolution of the European Union’s preoccupation for the protection and the promotion of human rights, placing the analysis of the Charter of Fundamental Rights in this context. The study, characterized by an analytical approach, is so structured as to reflect this evolution, from a brief history of the elaboration process and the adoption of the Charter of Fundamental Rights to the contents, the sources, principles, juridical nature and reflections about the prospects. In conclusion, she shows that in world where to act locally and think globally is a necessity, the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union could be “a visiting card for the European social model, both inside the Union and outside it”.
