Summary/Abstract: The author, professor with the Faculty of Law at the University of Valencia, member of the European Committee of Social Rights, examines the social rights and the social policy in terms of the Treaty of Lisbon. His study is structured in four parts: I. Introductory issues: the difficult and tense balance between the adjectives “social” and “economic” in the Lisbon Treaty. II. Towards the consolidation of the Social Policy and the respect for Social Rights within the European Union. III. The Challenges of the Social Policy after the Lisbon Treaty. IV. Concluding thoughts: the optimization of the common European standard concerning Social Policy and Social Rights.
