Summary/Abstract: After a brief survey on the history of the corruption phenomenon and the opinions of consecrated authors on corruption, the author presents the main instruments adopted in the field by the United Nations Organization and the Council or Europe, namely, the United Nations Convention against Corruption and, respectively, the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption and the Civil Law Convention on Corruption. A distinctive space is devoted to the definitions and the causes of corruption as well as the evil influence it has upon human rights, upon manʼs life, freedom and dignity, and also upon good governance and the economic and social rights
