Summary/Abstract: Acad. (honorary member) Professor Dr. Udrischi Gheorghe (1867–1958) was a veterinary surgeon. He was born on October 18, 1867, in the city of Fălticeni. On February 24th, 1892, he defended his thesis for obtaining the certificate of veterinarian, entitled: „Ovariectomy in cows”. In 1894, he was appointed tem porary head of works in the Department of Surgical and Clinical Pathology, led by Professor Ioan Popescu, and after passing the examination he was appointed Professor of Pathology and Surgical Clinic. He can rightfully be considered the creator of the veterinary school of surgery in our country. His excellent scien tific training, his contribution with his vast specialty knowledge and his strong intuition, formed the basis of his scientific works, materialized in over 80 original works in various fields of surgery. He was a corresponding member of the Academy of France and Veterinary Society of Veterinary Medicine in Berlin. In 1925, he was elected President of the General Association of Veterinarians in Romania. In 1931 participating in parliamentary elections, he was elected senator of Suceava 1931–1932, in the Government led by Nicolae Iorga. The Romanian Academy declared him an hon orary member in 1946, but then R.P.R Academy suppressed him on June 9th, 1948, at the orders of the Communist regime. Acad. (corresponding member) Professor Dr. Petre Spânu (1894– 1962) was a veterinarian, in animal husbandry specialty. He was born on January 17th, 1894, in the village Vicovul de Jos, Suceava County, and he was formed in the German school, attending both the german school and high school in the town of Rădăuţi. In the autumn of 1913 he passes the admission exam in the Veterinary Medical Military Institute in Vienna, attending the courses of the Superior School of Veterinary Medicine until 1917. In the years of World War I (1916–1918) he was a soldier in the regiment ulani veterinary and a group of troops to train on the front. In 1920 he obtained, in Vienna, the title of doctor of veterinary medical sciences. He occupied various functions: Zootechnical and veterinary inspector of Bucovina (1918–1920), the Subdirectory of the Herghelia Rădăuţi and Livestock Department Chief Inspectorate of Bukovina in Cernăuţi (1920–1922); Horse general inspector in the State stud farm from Bonţida Cluj (1924–1937); Head of Livestock guidance Services in the Zootechnical and vet erinary department of the Ministry of agriculture and the fields (from 1937). From May 1939 to December 1946, he was general inspector of animal husbrandy, and then until May 1948, general subdirector in the Ministry of Agriculture and Domains. On 22 November 1947 he was appointed Associate Professor at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest. From 21 Octomber 1948 until December 15, 1954, he was a professor and rector of the Institute of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine in Arad (IZMV). In 1954 he was awarded the order of labor class IlI, and on 2 July 1955 he was elected corresponding member of the Romanian Academy. He also was a member of the circle of mili tary and civilian Doctors from Cluj Napoca and of the General Association of Veterinarians in Romania and Vice President of the French society for Encouraging growth and Improving the Romanian Provinces Transcarpatine Horse. The Treaty Increases the growth of ovine and equidae. Since 1955, he is based at the Institute of Timisoara Agronomic Faculty of animal husbandry, as Professor head of Department, where he remains upon his death, on august 7, 1962.
