Summary/Abstract: The study analyzes the relationships of Italian intellectuals with the fascist regime, insisting on the case of Piedmontese writer Cesare Pavese (1909-1950). The author presents the intellectual environment in which Pavese was formed, his cultural and political activity in the 1930s, his arrest and sending to confino (internal exile), the influence of political themes in his literary works, his role in the cultural life of the Italian Republic, after the World War Two.
