The Integration of Immigrants and Refugees. A Psychosocial Approach

Summary/Abstract: Receiving, assistance and integration of immigrants and refugees represents a sensitive subject from a social and political aspect, a challenge for governments and societies, both at a national and a European and international level. With a relevant cultural and social dimension, the integration of immigrants and refugees is a dynamic bidirectional process, which involves assuming responsibilities, both for the newcomers and for the host countries as well, as it is shown by different experiences and programs from this field. The present paper presents some social and psychological aspects involved in the integration processes, and furthermore the factors which can have a positive or negative influence, upon the social assistance programs in the case of refugees.
