Summary/Abstract: Despite the fact that migration has been a key topic for media and scientific research, there are still ambiguities regarding its definition. Caused by the diversity of meanings from different scientific fields, the complexity of migration phenomena and the intervention of external factors (e.g. media and politics), conceptual ambiguities are highlighted by the confrontation between rational normality and the deep anthropological aspects of an instinctual imaginary where preconceived images prevail. In the article, two such key images have been described: the invading immigrant and the slave immigrant who breaks with the nominal normality of the definition and challenges us with the confusing reality of the action. This is the reason why we considered that the conceptual disambiguation and the correlation with certain fields became our main interest. For this, the first step was to establish an epistemic framework starting from the idea that migration is a natural historical phenomenon. Subsequently, we developed a stipulative definition identifying the proximate genus and specific differentia, followed by a broad classification and having a role of ostensive definition. In conclusion, it’s pointed out, once again, that conceptual development and clarification are useless if it doesn’t help to develop coherent policies that are focus on human being.
