The Beginnings of Black-and-white and Colour Television in Romania

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the stages of the implementa tion process of the television in Romania, for black and white television emission and then for color television emission, in the context of development of these services in the European region. The main personalities who had contributed to the implemen tation of the television system in our country are presented, persons who had theoretical, experimental or implementation activities in this field after 1928 year. A chronology of the main implementation stages of television transmissions in Romania is presented, from the first experiments in the television transmis sion to the public television broadcasting, with regular emission. The researches and activities performed for choosing the proper color TV transmission system and its implementation process are mentioned. In that period, our specialists worked hard for the fabrication of our own equipments for emission and transmis sion of the television signals. These efforts are also presented, together with the realization and implementation of the main chains of radio relay transmitters and transposers, which were necessary to grant the access to the television emission service for a great percent of the population.
