Summary/Abstract: International trade, investment, and governmental activity have increased dramatically in recent decades. 'The East European events of 1989 contributed to the growth and complexity of international relationships that increasingly will affect large numbers of Bulgarian organizations and individuals, but the educational system and the organization of social sciences research in Bulgaria are lagging behind these developments. Bulgarian public and private decision makers will need a much broader and deeper understanding of the legal, economic, and political issues facing that country and the world, and must confront the need for urgent changes in professional training, education, and research in the social sciences.
