Summary/Abstract: The article presents some Roman legal aspects of motherhood. First of all, the basic terms and concepts, mater, mater familias, matrona, mamma, are considered. The connection between the mother and the child for determining his status is traced, as well as the concept of ius naturale for the procreative function of woman, which is fully and legally realized within the Roman marriage (matrimonium).
