Development of Entrepreneurial Skills in a Business Simulation Enterprise: Students’ Attitudes

Summary/Abstract: The paper examines characteristics and skills of an entrepreneur and aims to assess the potential of entrepreneurship education for skills development and to identify how students understand these skills. Literature review focuses on some fundamental topics: characteristics and skills necessary for an entrepreneur; difficulties in entrepreneurship education and training; whether entrepreneurship can be taught or not; the content of entrepreneurship programmes. The paper proves that a Business Simulation Enterprise is one of the most effective teaching models of training future entrepreneurs in Lithuanian colleges. A questionnaire-based methodology was used; the sample (n = 103) included the students who have had practical training in Business Simulation Enterprises in Lithuanian colleges. Factor analysis revealed that the following factors are important for the development of entrepreneurial skills via Business Simulation Enterprises: personal characteristics, management skills and technical skills. The results of the research show that the respondents seem to be aware of the necessary entrepreneurial skills and a bigger part of them believes that they gain such skills. They maintain that a Business Simulation Enterprise has improved their entrepreneurial skills; the majority of the respondents are convinced that skills developed in Simulation Business Enterprises are applicable in their future occupations.
