Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the artistic path of the lăutar accordionist Petru Baranciuc, who carried out a highlysuccessful musical activity between 1980-2000 in Moldova, but also abroad, in international bands. The artist’scontribution was essential for introducing the Basarabian lăutar art to Balkan and international music. His compositionBalkanica, which became very soon a hit, is a milestone in this sense. His example is conclusive in terms of continuityand development of lăutar`s traditions in contemporary music. The author highlighted the artistic processes and thierproblematic, from the perspective of different historical and socio-cultural contexts, from 1950 to the present days.
