Summary/Abstract: The Synod in Gangra was convened in 340 because of the phenomenon of Eustachian asceticism, widespread in the East. This Synod, conducted under the leadership of Eusebius of Nicomedia, was strongly marked by the influence of Arianism. Nevertheless, eighteen out of twenty of its provisions have been repeated many times in subsequent documents of the Catholic Church. Based on the analysis and comparison of sources, it can be said that the Synod in Gangra is one of the sources of the later canon law.
