Summary/Abstract: The article aims at conducting a critical analysis on the use of different linguistic devices on the part of the British media with a view to both structuring their texts in a cohesive and coherent manner, and influencing the reader through their discourse representation and visual semiotic choices. The research is conducted on the basis of a small corpus consisting of four articles covering the 05-June-2018 hearing of Grenfell Tower inquiry of the worst UK residential fire since the Second World War, excerpted from the electronic databases of four British newspapers: The Guardian, The Independent, The Sun and BBC News and the quoted sources in the articles have been identified. The study is carried out with reference to the constitutive standards of textuality according to Beaugrande and Dressler, a framework for discourse representation analysis utilized by Norman Fairclough and the semiotic theory of Roland Barthes.
