Summary/Abstract: The famous poets Nazim Hikmet and Atanas Dalchev were born almost at the same time at the beginning of the last century and spent their early childhood in Thessaloniki - the second most important political, economic and spiritual centre of the Ottoman Empire. It is interesting that, after leaving, due to different circumstances, their hometown, both the Turkish and the Bulgarian poets never return to it. While Nazim Hikmet never mentions Thessaloniki in his poetry, Atanas Dalchev does so only once. The article is an attempt to find an answer to this question.
