Summary/Abstract: The present research focuses on Yordan Valchev’s collection of stories about the Second World War called ‘Fights’ (‘Boeve’). The problem of guilt is analyzed in the context of otherness. The main thesis in the discussion is the lack of stereotyping of the other – the Germans, Hungarians, Serbians, Russians are just like the Bulgarians, similar in their fate, thoughts, actions, sacrifices, and not blaming the enemy for their failures and misfortunes.
