Summary/Abstract: A coursebook for learning a foreign language influences the development of language skills, but also the development of intercultural competence. To diagnose the presence of non-verbal textbook content on Russian culture, a study was carried out using Russian language textbooks. Document analysis was used as a method. The research material was a series of textbooks Всё просто! addressed to students in grades VII–VIII and the results of a previous analysis of 100 works of art by students about Russia and Russians (discussed in another article). Particular attention was paid to the non-verbal image of Russia and Russians presented in the series of textbooks, i.e. photographs, pictures, drawings, illustrations and other elements included in the graphic design of the textbooks. The image of Russia and its inhabitants, according to students starting to learn Russian, is usually stereotypical and the knowledge about its inhabitants is usually basic. It turns out that the textbook used by students can have a decisive impact on the perception of a foreign culture, especially when it is the main teaching aid.
