Summary/Abstract: Between May of 1945 and the end of 1946 the Czechoslovak authorities carried out the expulsion of close to three million ethnically German citizens of the interwar Czechoslovak Republic. At the time, the action was universally accepted by all major Czech and Slovak political actors and supported by an overwhelming majority of the population. At the conclusion of the expulsion only around 200,000 ethnic Germans remained, much more on account of luck than as a result of Czech administrative policy, and half of these were partners in mixed marriages.
