Summary/Abstract: In the first part of the current issue of EEPS we present four articles originally read during a conference held at the Vienna's lnstitut fur die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in September of 1993. The conference brought together over two dozen scholars from Western and Eastern Europe as well as the United States.
