Summary/Abstract: „The Sides of the Coin – Legionary Movement between 1941–1948” – is an enlightening and balanced radiogra phy of the last seven years of the Iron Guard Movement, between the Rebellion (21st–23rd of January 1941) and the establishment of the Stalinist regime in Romania (1948). The book is structured in six chapters, covering the follow ing aspects: Legionary Movement in connection to other European Extreme Right Movements (pp. 17–37); Analysis of the most important historical literature regarding the Legionary Movement; Analysis of the diverging historical approaches of the Movement; Presentation of the Iron Guard Movement’s basic structure, leadership, intelligence and repression forces (pp. 99–129); The Legion’s main factions and groups (pp. 152– 164); Most important Legionary operations after the Rebellion of the 21st–23rd of January 1941 (pp. 175–197); Interactions between the Legionary Movement and the Romanian Communist Party – Communist infiltration of the Movement and Legionary infil tration of the Communist Party (pp. 206–224). The book ends with a chapter of interesting conclusions and annexes containing 52 original, previously unpublished documents. The book benefits from the advantage of a neutral, balanced historical approach, describing “all the sides of the coin”. The central conclusion of the book is that the Iron Guard Movement was a complex political phenomenon, strongly connected to the far right ideology but not limited to it.
