Summary/Abstract: After the great moment from December 1st, 1918, when Transylvania has joined with Romania, a new chapter in the history of Turda started. The organization of the town and TurdaArieş county started right in December 1918. In this context there can be depicted two essential moments. On December 22nd 1918, the first Romanian Army troops entered Turda, and on December 29th 1918, the lawyer Zosim Chirtop was named prefect of the county Turda-Arieş by the Transylvania Ruling Council, thus becoming the first Romanian to have ever held such an official position. In 1919 many steps were made towards achieving an organisation on Romanian foundations. This strategy was part of a complex process in which the main part was played by the intellectual elite of Turda. Having the experience of attending the Great National Assembly from Alba-Iulia from December 1st 1918, the members of the intellectual elite in Turda, contributed crucially to reorganization of their town and the Turda-Arieş county. Implicated in this process were also the priests belonging to both Romanian confessions of this space. Between May 27th and May 28th Turda was visited by King Ferdinand and Queen Mary of Romania. In the fall of the year 1919 were inaugurated the schools now functioning within the Romanian legislation, both being given the names of the members of the Royal family: The High School „King Ferdinand’’ and the Girl’s Boarding School „Princess Ileana’’. Towards the end of the year 1919, the citizens of Turda took part in the first election held in the Great Romania, sending their representatives in the first Parliament chosen after the war.
