Summary/Abstract: The proposed text presents how history and the past are reflected in Mihail Sadoveanu's literature. The author was, throughout his life, very concerned with the world of the village and the details that make up the image of this world. He was of the opinion that the Romanian village is one in which positive values are perpetuated for millennia, he saw the Romanian village as the ancestral village, even older than Decebal and Burebista. The traditions of the village are equivalent to details from the mythologies of the world and in his literature, Sadoveanu introduces aspects that connect the Romanian village with the other cultures of the world. What concerned us, in particular, are the details that make up the image of the Romanian village and the Romanian peasant, this being the theme of the doctoral thesis: "The image of the Romanian village and peasant in the works of interwar authors". In order to find those details, we analyzed Mihail Sadoveanu's literature and how it captures the image of the Romanian peasant. Describing the tradition, customs and behaviors of the peasants, the author tries to demonstrate the ancient connection of the contemporary peasant with his ancestors. The plowman and his agrarian customs are related to the ancient civilizations and their archaic belief systems, related to the position of the planets and the solar holidays on the basis of which agriculture is organized and planned.
