ZAGREB IN BULGARIAN LITERATURE DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: The article is focused on the ideas of the Bulgarian intelligentsia about the Croatian capital at different stages of the political and spiritual history of Bulgarians and Croats. Zagreb, as an administrative and cultural capital, sets the pulse for the entire country, defining its structure. The city will be seen as a collective image of Croatian history and cultural identity, which acquires the qualities of a medium or a mental construct that connects different cultural strata and value hierarchies. Based on the analysis of literary works, travelogues, letters, travel notes, the dynamics of the town will be sought in the reflection of his many medieval and new histories, which intertwine numerous dialogical fields, legitimising him as the political, economic and cultural centre of the Croatian nation.
