Summary/Abstract: After the unexpected collapse of communism and its humbling effect on social science, social scientists leaped with great vigor to explain and guide the post-communist transformation. Undaunted by their failure to foresee the most momentous event to have taken place in the second half of the twentieth century, scholars quickly stepped forward to dispense advice, construct scenarios, draw up master plans, and provide analysis and insight, as well as construct and test theories.
