Summary/Abstract: A future development program will be adopted by world leaders at the Special Summit on Sustainable Development in September 2015 in New York. The states have agreed on the draft outcome document that will build on the previous successes of the eight Millennium Development Goals adopted in 2000. The goals set out in the draft program for after 2015 go further, by addressing the root causes of poverty and the universal sustainable development needs of all peoples. In carrying out the program, an important role will be played by national institutions for human rights.
