Summary/Abstract: A breakthrough in scientific reflection on children and childhood is closely connected with the research that has been conducted in the field of the new sociology of childhood since the 1980s. The main study design used in this research is ethnography. The article describes Janusz Korczak’s much earlier research on children’s culture created by children participating in holiday camps. Despite slightly differing from the canon of ethnography, Korczak’s research can be considered as a pioneering ethnographic study on children’s holiday camp culture created by children at the beginning of the twentieth century.
