Summary/Abstract: In 1985, in a clandestinely printed samizdat journal, I made one of the first forecasts of what it would be like to have a "normal" democracy in our Central European country. "Boring" was my prediction, but I preferred that desirable boredom of normalcy to the excited state of mind of our late communist times. Life was adventurous then at every level: in the "inner emigration" of opposition, in the "space between the lines," populated by our intelligentsia, and in the "black economy" livelihood of ordinary folks.
