Summary/Abstract: The article examines the study of interpersonal relationships between spousesthrough the prism of self-perception and partner perception, as well as the impact of theserelationships on the functionality of the family system. The study is presented by a sample of 157married couples aged 18 years and older with varying numbers of years of marital experience. In thecourse of the study, a connection was revealed between the tendency of modern married couples toliberal relations, characterized by a sufficiently high level of friendliness and independence,autonomy and a low level of family functionality. The results of the study indicate the desire of spousesto dominate and compete in a couple, which reflects the state of modern society and adversely affectsthe vitality of the family
