Summary/Abstract: Gender equality is a priority objective of UNESCO and of the Council of Europe as a fundamental principle of human rights and democracy. The two organizations are actively involved, legally and politically, in the fight against gender inequalities and discrimination, and this issue is addressed in numerous programs, strategies and action plans, in a cross-cutting and integrated perspective. In the view of UNESCO and the Council of Europe, gender equality education is conceived as an essential means of supporting and promoting the values of gender equality, achieving inclusive and quality education for all involved in actions to achieve education for human rights, education for sustainable development and citizenship.
