Summary/Abstract: Despite the fact that influences on Croatian language and culture throughout history were predominantly non-Slavic, this paper focuses on the influence of Slavic languages and cultures in forming the Croatian language standard. Therefore, the mostly influence of Slavic languages on Croatian happened in the process of standardization of Croatian language and the development of language terminology in the period of national revival. Also, it will be mentioned the influence of the languages of the former Yugoslavia, especially of Serbian language, on the Croatian language. In the paper will be discussed present interpretation of Slavic languages of the former Yugoslavia Republics as Balkan languages in modern linguistic.
