Summary/Abstract: This vital historical article sheds light on a little known corner of the Balkans in WW2: Debar, a small town in western Macedonia, at that time controlled by the Albanian Skanderbeg Division, allied with Hitler's occupation forces. This primarily history also traces in broad outlines the history of this forgotten town since ancient times and evokes the memories of very obscure Albanian commanders who nevertheless played a crucial role in the war on Macedonia's "western front." Supplemented by 3 very rare historic photos and 1 contemporary photo.
