LITERARY CRITICISM AND THE PROBLEMS OF CHANGES IN THE SOVIET LITERATURE OF 1953 - 1956

Summary/Abstract: In the article critico-literary pronouncements of 1953—1956 were examined from the point of view of the role and importance in the process of historioliterary changes after 1952. In particular the views on the current literary subjects of authors like V. Pomierantsev, F. Abramov, M. Shcheglov and others were discussed in the article. Their analysis makes it possible to draw the following conclusions: —critico-literary consciousness of the first half of the 50s is an important evidence of general literary changes of the period. —the pronouncements presenting the programmes of the criticism of that tįme cannot be confined only to one homogeneous system of views; it is only possible to separate a certain group of different sugesstions whose aim is the improvement of literature. —the attempts made by criticism of that time of universal revaluations in the domain of literature had a considerable importance for its development after 1956, which owes its indisputable achievements just to the preparatory work of the literary criticism o f 1953—1956.
