Summary/Abstract: The time of informatization in which we find ourselves requires us to carefully consider the ways and types of information systems that will allow us the practical application and selection of information systems. Of course, all with the aim of better and easier disposal of information and data related to our business. That is why it is very important to know how to choose a suitable information system. To make this job easier, it is necessary to carefully consider the functions and needs that this information system needs to perform. Such considerations must include a series of steps, the most important and most professional being the design of information systems. The paper describes the needs and types of information systems. A structure that gives us an insight into the capabilities and functions of the system itself. All this is visible through the offered object-oriented approach in the design of information systems. There is also a tool that allows us to more easily describe the needs, review and share UML (Unified Modeling Language)+ diagrams that are indispensable in creating information systems. The development of UML through history is presented to see the development of information system design tools.
