Summary/Abstract: In this study, we intend to make known to the public a unique artwork that has the portrait of Ignatius Batthyány in its centre. This find reveals in a completely new manner the aristocratic origin of the Bishop as a young count, before his installement as such in Transylvania. We took this opportunity to bring new information about the history of the iconography in the great Hall of the Library, but also some new data about the Astronomical Observatory and the final steps of its development. Further research will have to shed new light upon this context and offer a hermeneutic unity to all artistic and aesthetic intentions that were at the core of the Bishop's iconographical program.
