Summary/Abstract: The author studies the place occupied by sesame as a food and a drug, as well as in the mental folk culture. The high fat content and pleasant taste of sesame seeds and butter determine their use as food, above all, chiefly in certain regions of South Bulgaria. This is the area in which the author has outlined the connection between sesame in the system of customs and feast days.
