Summary/Abstract: In the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia has developed a new policy towards the Central Asian countries. Russia has made efforts to keep the Central Asian Republics in its sphere of influence by increasing its control on the regions energy resources, deploying its troops in this Republics and establishing regional alliances with them. One of these countries is Kazakhstan and it is obviously that Russia and Kazakhstan maintain a closer relationship. Russia is one of the most important external actor in Kazakhstan, regarding energy policies pursued in the region at all. Both countries had to face a number of challenges and crises but they did not pass any opportunity to cooperate with each other indeed. This study examines the Russian Federation’s foreign policy towards Kazakhstan regarding political, strategic and economic aspects as well as Russian minority in this country.
