Summary/Abstract: Vasile Urzică was one of the most representative Greek-Catholic protopopes of Alba Iulia. He came from a priest family and was originally from the village Subcetate (now Harghita county). Vasile Urzică formed himself intellectually in the cultural environment of the Romanian schools in Blaj. He decided to become a priest, and in the early years, between 1900 and 1918, he served in his birthplace. In 1918, he was named protopope of Alba Iulia, and thus having this social status, he brought his contribution to organising the Great Union. In the interwar period, he entered politics, being a deputy (1920-1922) and a senator (1927-1928; 1931-1932). On the cultural level, he activated in the ASTRA (the Transylvanian Association for Romanian Literature and the Culture of the Romanian People) and he was a close collaborator of the United Romanian General Association.
