Summary/Abstract: The recollection and oblivion of the three Bulgarian poets of the year 1962, reflected in their books of memoirs: Atanas Slavov.s .Bulgarian Literature and the Thaw. and .Grown Over with Grass., Stefan Tsanev.s .The Murderers Are among Us. and .Mind the Windmills ., and Lybomir Levchev.s .You Are the Next. are definitely in favour of authentic recreation. Their endeavour to reply as sincerely as possible to the challenges of the social memory is stressed. their striving by their account to introduce the readers adequately into the atmosphere of that remarkable year is emphasized. Remarkable because of the fact that it was a border year. A peak year for Bulgarian liberalization - in a socio-political and a socio-psychological respect. When the greatest liberalization in the country.s spiritual life since the Second World War gave its most striking creative fruit. The advantages of the comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach when we get down to a historical reconstruction are doubtless. Thus, after the obligatory sifting out of the involuntarily or deliberately manipulated episodes, re-created in memoir literature, after the thorough analysis of the plentiful archival material which allow the revealing of the complicated interaction between the authorities and the intelligentsia, and also after the conscientious study of the works of the Bulgarian writers, the researcher can restore and bring to life the facts and draw trustworthy conclusions about the literary life and the intellectual attitudes during the second half of the past 20th century.
