Summary/Abstract: Graphic presentation applied in the process of teaching intonation should be a scientifically based system of conventional signs. The purpose of employing the system should be the development of such habits as: speaking, reading and writing. The basic unit of Russian intonation is ‘syntagme’, for in speaking we are concerned with sequences of syntagmes, not words. This is realized in a continuation of open segments accentually opposed. It is believed that original ways of graphic presentation of intonation by means of the notation used in music and generally accepted signs denoting vowels make the quicker mastering the pronunciation possible.
