Summary/Abstract: In terms of semantics answers to the question ‘when’ can be divided into three major groups: answers implying exact time (absolute time), answers concerned with relative time and the so called ‘combined answers’ expressing time depending on the context. Time can be indicated in Russian in various ways by means of: 1) a group of words (expressing time not in the language but by means o f it), 2) single words (lexical itoms denote time), 3) verb forms (most explicit). The article discusses the characteristic features o f each o f the mentioned ways of expressing time.
