Summary/Abstract: Based on in-depth interviews conducted during the research project “Stadium – City – Culture”, we show some of the reactions of Poznań residents to the European Football Championship. The ambivalence characterizing these seems to derive from the relational and contextual boundaries between “me”, “us” and “them”. At the same time, there are several recurring discursive threads about Euro 2012 and the stadium that seem to be something of a general indicator of differences in people’s vision of the city, and of ideological differences that are correlated with this. At the city level, we can see a reproduction in Poznań of oppositions and debates that exist nationwide, such as a clash between a very powerful discourse of westernization (“Let’s finally Europeanise this backwater of ours”) and a discourse that refers to local values seen as differing from Western models.
