Summary/Abstract: The article deals with means of expressing irony in the work ‘What are “Friends of the People” and how they Strugle against Social Democrats’. Although these means are to a great extent traditional, the possibilities of their application are practically unlimited since all the existing words and linguistic forms give possibilities of expressing “hidden irony” directly or by association. The multiple and manifold linguistic means expressing irony in the work ‘What are “Friends of the People” ... are of organic character. They are bound together intoone entity on a semantic and stylistic basis. They form several vast groups. A more detailed classification is needed within the groups. Linguistic means expressing irony in the language of V. Lenin’s political journalism analysed even on the material of a single text proves the high level of his political journalism.
