Summary/Abstract: The paper captures some of the issues raised by the UK’s official departure from the European Union on 31 January 2020, following the signing of a withdrawal agreement that included a series of conditions. From that moment on, the UK has entered a period of transition, until 31 December 2020, during which time it will continue to apply European regulations. Brussels and London are still negotiating an agreement, in this period, on their future relationship, in particular the trade link, with the hope that it could enter into force on 1 January 2021. In the absence of such an agreement, the future trade relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom shall be governed by the rules of the World Trade Organization.
